Games, Art, and Mind Bit (Gambit) #1 - Star Citizen

Okay, I'm going to start my first G.A.M.Bit post with a game that is close to my heart, and may  possibly become one of the best MMO games of all time ( If it ever gets finished ). Star Citizen. Not only is the art in this game fantastic, and the designs beautiful from concept to completion, but the game play itself already feels amazing! To look at the designs and art in this game, the creators and artists have done an amazing job making all the different items feel like they belong together, but at the same time making them feel as if they were built by different groups of people. The amount of passion the team has for this project is just amazing, and you can really see that come through in every detail the add to this world. Like a potter, molding the piece, slowly building up the shape to create a pleasing and functional shape. meticulously shifting his hands to the next section, and then when he is done creating the structure, going on to paint it, an...

Guest Post: Content Creation: Contextual Value Vs. Intrinsic Value

Hello peoples and others. I got a guest post here from board game designer Micah Burks, owner of Runcible Games . You can find his blog/website here. I hope you enjoy :) Here is his post -------------------------------------------------------------- What is it that makes content valuable? There are lots of things that add value to any creation, but today Nathanael and I were throwing ideas around about the ideas of "Intrinsic Value", and "Contextual Value", specifically in the entertainment industry. I'd like to share a bit on that, if you care to read! What exactly do I mean by that?  Well let's say you  have a beautiful gem, and a bit of string. The gem has "intrinsic value" by itself, because it's unique and appealing, while the bit of string has "contextual value" because it can be used with and for lots of things. Now let's  look at the evolution of television as an  example from entertainment : If you watch ...

Getting Started

Hello again my Friends and random passersby!  I'm back to give you a talking to about possibly the hardest thing to do in our modern day... Getting started. Whew! Now that I did that, I just have the easy part left ;) Ever heard of the phrase "yesterday, you said tomorrow, so just do it!". You probably have if you interneted much in 2017. Even though the whole thing was silly, Shia LaBeouf had some good points in that section of his video.  The thing that makes beginning is hard for us, is a mental block. It can be scary to start something, because with that comes the possibility of failure. That word, failure, used to scare me so much... But, the thing is, that failure is not something to be afraid of! I know that that goes against all of your thought processes through school, but it is true. I saw a thing on the internet the other day, that said something to the effect of this: The difference between a master, and a novice, is that the master ...

Still Life- Look Closer

Hello! hi, konbanwa, and greetings,  Welcome one and all ( even though it will be closer to one ) to my blog Burks Designed!  I wanted to do a blog, as a way to help me remember everything that happens in my journey through life, at least for a while. I kinda want this to be a journal, but at the same time I would like to try and connect with more people through this as well :)  I know I am not a great writer, or very good with words in general. I hope that if you read this blog, you may be able to get something out of it, despite me being the one to write it. As I was working today at my part time job, I was trying to think of a cool single word to name this blog. I was thinking through a few different ideas like: Thought, Photo, Deeper, and then I got to Difference ( obviously you can see that I chose something else. ) and as I thought on that word, I had a thought. "The Answer to a subtraction problem is called a difference. Differences can...
